Week of November 1

It has been a busy week in 4th grade! This week, Students learned about the human eye and did an experiment where they simulated how our eye receives and processes images using a refracted lens and sunlight. We also finished reading BFG and students have been invited to a very special event next Wednesday. Everyone has been invited to have breakfast with the Queen (inspired from a very important chapter in the book). I will be serving up pancakes and BFG's favorite drink "Frobscottle." For those of you who have seen the book or movie,I promise the bubbles won't really go down instead of up! LOL! If you don't know what I am talking about, ask your student. The answer will most likely come with a giggle! On Wednesday, students are invited to wear their Sunday best as eating with the Queen is a formal affair. Students are also welcome to wear their uniform. Sunday best would be nice slacks and top/sweater or skirts/dresses. This is not a free dress where students come in sweats or jeans. We will eat around 10:00 am so they should eat a real breakfast before school. In the afternoon, we will wrap BFG up by watching the movie and comparing/contrasting the movie to the book.

A reminder, next Friday there is no school as we will be having virtual Zoom conferences. If you have not signed up for a conference yet, please click the following link to sign up. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050b4ba5ad2aaaf58-fall

On Monday, Student Council will be selling flags for $1 in honor of Veteran's Day. If you would like to honor family and friends who are Veterans, you can purchase a flag each and their names will be written on the wooden stake and displayed on the field. It will be a beautiful way to honor those who have served our country. Thank you for all your prayers and support! I am happy to share that Mr. Minner will be back from Kuwait on Monday!

Today in Religion/Mindfulness, the class did a guided meditation. Guided meditation can be helpful when children have trouble falling asleep, need quiet reflection time or are feeling anxious.  Below is the link to the guided meditation used in class today. The class really enjoyed it. If you are interested in looking for others, you can search the web or youtube by putting "guided meditation for kids" in the search engine. Some are 2 minutes and others can be as long as 20 minutes or more. You can pick one to fit your needs. I also created a Mindfulness Google Classroom that I will be putting resources into as the class tries them. This will allow students to go be able to use them as they like.
